Brain Tumor, Comprehensive Epilepsy, Neurology and Neurosurgery Clinics
At the Brain Tumor Clinic at Children's Hospital, children who are being treated for brain tumors are seen by many different doctors. Since many different treatment options - radiation, surgery, chemotherapy - and many combinations of these treatments are used to treat children with brain tumors, a team approach is needed to choose the best treatment for each child.
Team members have helped develop national investigational treatment trials for children younger than 3 years of age who are diagnosed with brain tumors, as well as for older children with specific types of tumors, including ependymoma, medulloblastoma, brainstem glioma and malignant supratentorial glioma.
Extensive research is being done at Children's Hospital with a technique known as Photodynamic Therapy (PDT).
Family-centered care At Children's Hospital of Wisconsin we provide family-centered care because we know that a child's health affects the whole family. We create a partnership with families talking openly and often about their child's care and their personal beliefs. Our goal is to support families by building on their strengths.
Treat ages 0-18 Our staff specializes in caring for children and many have advanced degrees and training. Our doctors are trained and certified in pediatrics and devote their entire practice to treating kids.
Treat common to complex conditions We treat the whole range of problems, from common to complex.
We offer diagnosis and treatment for:
- All types of brain tumors.
- Neurological disorders sometimes caused by childhood cancer.
Comfort Zone Many parents worry about their child being in pain when visiting the hospital. Talk to your child's health care team about your fears. The Comfort Zone is our pledge that we will make every effort to keep your child comfortable during his or her visit to Children's Hospital.
In addition to the Brain Tumor Clinic, a Brain Tumor Consultation Group brings together specialists from oncology, radiology, neurosurgery and neurology as well as neuropsychology, physical and occupational therapy and nursing. It meets once a week to review new patients, as well as old cases, to make sure each child is getting the best care possible. If needed, other specialists are consulted.
Furthermore, specialists from Children's Hospital are part of a national consortium called the Children's Oncology Group, which was established to promote the best care for cancer in children. Because no one hospital sees enough of any one tumor to put together a study, they band together in a national trial to get questions answered.
Location The clinic is held at Children's Hospital of Wisconsin on 8 East, the first and third Wednesday of the month.
