The Child Abuse Prevention Fund is a special fundraising initiative of Children's Hospital and Health System. Since 1988, the organization has distributed more than $8.5 million to support community-based child abuse prevention initiatives throughout Wisconsin.
Children's Hospital and Health System is only too aware of the damage caused by child abuse and neglect, and the organization is working on many fronts to help end it. The health system's approach is two-pronged:
- To provide the medical care and resources necessary to help victims recover.
- To provide and seek support for primary
prevention initiatives that stop abuse from happening in the first place.
Your donations to the Child Abuse Prevention Fund help children and families across Wisconsin. Programs that can benefit from your gift include home visitation initiatives that help at-risk parents get started on the right foot when a baby is born; education programs that help mothers and fathers improve their parenting skills; community education programs that deliver messages such as never shake a baby; and new, innovative approaches to strengthen families, enhance parenting skills and keep children safe from abuse and neglect.
Mission
The Child Abuse Prevention Fund is committed to ensuring a safe environment for children through financial support of primary prevention activities throughout Wisconsin, as well as educating professionals and the public about the role of prevention in eliminating child abuse.
History
In 1987, Milwaukee Brewers President Bud Selig, Milwaukee County Supervisor Thomas Bailey, and former Children's Hospital and Health System President and CEO Jon E. Vice created the Child Abuse Prevention Fund to help combat the growing number of child abuse cases.
From the start, the Child Abuse Prevention Fund has recognized that the only true way to wipe out child abuse is through primary prevention – keeping child abuse from happening in the first place.
