Fact: There are no such requirements. You can be married, single, partnered, or divorced. You can be a homeowner or a renter. The only financial requirement is your income needs to exceed your expenses.
Fact: Many foster parents work outside the home and in almost all cases, daycare with a certified provider is paid for (3 stars or higher).
Fact: There is no age requirement other than you must be at least 21 years of age. Many “empty nesters” find foster parenting to be a rewarding experience. Respite foster care is also a nice part time option, which you can do according to your availability.
Fact: It’s true – you will get attached, and it will be painful when a child you love leaves. These children have suffered through things no child should ever face and they need the love and care foster parents provide while their families heal. It is rewarding to see a family heal and be reunified, and you could have the unique and rewarding opportunity to continue to be a support to that child’s family.
