Media invited to attend Milwaukee's Adoption Day Celebration Friday, Nov. 16

MILWAUKEE - Milwaukee's Adoption Day Celebration is a rare opportunity for media to view several adoptions and interview the families and experts. Hosted by the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare, Integrated Family Services, St. Aemilian-Lakeside Milwaukee County Children's Court Judiciary and Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services. This event raises awareness about adoption and celebrates National Adoption Awareness Month.
WHO: The Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare, Children's Hospital of Wisconsin Community Services, Integrated Family Services, Milwaukee County Children's Court Judiciary, Milwaukee County District Attorney's Office and St. Aemilian-Lakeside will host an Adoption Day Celebration. Several adoptions will take place and media are invited to attend. Pre-interviews and additional insights into the families are available prior to the event.
WHAT: November is recognized as National Adoption Awareness Month. Adoption means finding a permanent home for children. Steven Obershaw of the Department of Children and Families said, "We are actively seeking permanent families for 240 children statewide." According to statistics released by the Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare, there were 273 children adopted in 2011 in Milwaukee County.

8:30 a.m. – brief program
9 a.m. – adoptions. Please arrive by 8:30 a.m. if you wish to view an adoption.
The program will include presentations from Joan Hansen, deputy secretary, Department of Children and Families; Arlene Happach, director, Bureau of Milwaukee Child Welfare; John Chisholm, district attorney of Milwaukee County; Debra Waller, CEO, Jockey International; and Honorable Judge M. Joseph Donald.
Adoptions begin at 9 a.m. Please arrive early to set up cameras.
